The CS-2000 content processing platform is a compact, modular, high-speed hardware system capable of handling a wide range of network applications and multiple simultaneous functions. Its high-capacity and wide range of interface support make it suitable for roles in the aggregation network, in the core, or at interconnect points.
The data path processing module is called the Deep Packet Processing System or DPPM. The DPPM delivers traffic measurement, classification, security, and control capabilities using complete traffic visibility from Layer 2 through all the layers of Layer 7. These capabilities can be combined to address applications from handling P2P traffic, to subscriber firewall applications, to content control applications.
CloudShield's Packet Operating System (CPOS) provides the interfaces between the DPPM and management plane application functions. These secure interface functions include extracting data from the data plane for off-line analysis, inserting or modifying policies that control packet processing, and provisioning new packet processing functions. An additional benefit of CPOS is that it presents a simplified data plane virtual machine which frees developers from programming the underlying hardware which includes network processors, search engines, classifiers, and FPGAs that provide the data plane processing capabilities.
