Safety Guidelines:

The following guidelines will help to ensure your safety and protect the equipment. This list is not inclusive of all potentially hazardous situations, so be alert.

  • Always disconnect the power cord, of the power supply that you are going to remove, prior to removing it from the shelf.
  • If you are removing the AC Power Supply, unplug the power cord prior to removing the power supply from the shelf.
  • If you are removing the DC Power Supply, site power to the DC Power Supply should be switched off before removing the terminal block cover and exposing the wires. Once the wires to the terminal block are disconnected, the power supply can be removed.
  • Carefully examine your work area for possible hazards such as moist floors, ungrounded power extension cables, and missing safety grounds.
  • Never assume that power has been disconnected from a circuit; always check.

Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage:

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, which occurs when electronic boards or components are improperly handled, can result in complete or intermittent failures. The boards are not intended to be handled and have no frame or shielding.

The Following are guidelines for preventing ESD damage:

  • When removing or installing a board, fantray or power supply, always use an ESD strap and ensure that it makes good skin contact and that it is connected to the ground jack on the shelf cable management
  • Handle boards by the edges only; avoid touching the board components, traces, or connector pins
  • Handle the fan tray and power supply by the sheetmetal only; avoid touching the board components, traces, or connector pins
  • Immediately place a removed board, fan tray or power supply in a static shielding bag to avoid ESD damage
  • Avoid contact between the board and clothing. The wrist strap only protects the board from ESD voltages on the body; ESD voltages on clothing can still cause damage

CS-2000 Chassis and Shelf Packaging:

The shelf must be shipped back to CloudShield in its original box with the original packaging materials that are required to protect the shelf. The cable management and mounting ears can be bent if the original packaging materials aren't used to protect the shelf. If the original packaging materials aren't used, CloudShield cannot accept responsibility for the damage done to the shelf during shipping. If you do not have the original box, please contact customer support at CloudShield and a box, with packing materials, will be shipped to you.

The correct packaging will consist of 1 box, 1 bag, and 3 pieces of foam as shown in the picture at left.
The picture at left shows the foam pieces when out of the box. The larger bottom piece should be laid in the box. The two smaller pieces will be applied after the CS-2000 is loaded.
Remove all cables, rack mount brackets and SFPs and place the CS-2000 chassis in pink bag as illustrated in the photo at left.
Place the bagged unit in box ensuring that it is placed in the foam as shown in the photograph at left. The cable management brackets must slide into the appropriateslots in the foam.
It is important that the shelf is put into the box in the correct orientation; otherwise, the cable management brackets could be bent. The photo at left shows the correct way that the cable management brackets should sit in the foam.
Replace the 2 pieces that make up the top layer of foam as shown in the photo at left. Tape up the box securely and it is ready to return to CloudShield.

Board, Fan Tray and Power Supplies packaging

When removing the equipment from the shelf, please follow the ESD guidelines above and ensure that you are grounded to the shelf via a wrist ground strap connected to the ground jack location on the cable management ear.

  • Remove the equipment that you are going to return from the shelf.
  • While still grounded to the shelf, place the equipment in an ESD bag and tape the bag closed. Do not walk around with the equipment while ungrounded.
  • Package the equipment in a box and protect it with foam so that it won't be damaged during shipping.
